Kasey Burr
Principal Solicitor & Mediator, Lord Legal
After years of practicing law within established firms, Kasey Burr decided it was time to take on a new challenge—one that would allow her to grow professionally, pursue meaningful work, and do things her own way.
“I can’t really put my finger on it, but I got to a point where I needed a new direction. It was time to push myself.”
In early April, Kasey launched her own solo legal practice, bringing her experience in criminal law and mediation to a new model of independent practice. Though she still maintains a great relationship with her previous firm, this shift has allowed her to focus more deeply on the areas of law that she’s passionate about—and develop a practice on her terms.
But working alone doesn’t mean working in isolation. For Kasey, finding a secure, professional, and community-minded space was non-negotiable.
“I’m not a work-from-home person. I need to physically leave the house to concentrate—and sometimes the fridge is just too close at home.”
After touring several office options, a coffee catch-up and a timely recommendation led her to DPARTMNT. It didn’t take long to feel right.
“I came in, took a look around, and basically told Sam to shut up and take my money.”
Kasey now runs her entire practice from DPARTMNT. As a solo practitioner working with sensitive clients and cases, safety and security were top priorities—and she found that peace of mind here. With after-hours access controls, meeting rooms for consultations, and a private office space that suits her style of deep focus, she has everything she needs to do her work well.
“I’m head down, bum up when I’m here. I don’t get too involved in the social stuff—not because I don’t want to, but because I just don’t have the time. And that’s what’s great—there’s no pressure to ‘perform’ socially here.”
Kasey appreciates the quiet, respectful energy of the space. Whether it’s a quick “G’day” in the kitchen or simply passing fellow professionals in the hallway, the DPARTMNT community provides just enough interaction, without expectation.
“Sam’s done really well with the mix of people here. It just works. You can plug in, focus, and get stuff done—or you can connect when you have the capacity to.”
With the support of a secure, flexible environment, Kasey is building a practice that reflects her values, her independence, and her pace. And while she may not be the loudest voice in the kitchen, her presence at DPARTMNT is a quiet reminder that professionalism, privacy, and purpose have a place here, too.
